Charles Ellis

Charles spent his career working in the NHS, the last seven years of which were as a board level director of strategic planning. During his career he was responsible for the estate function of a £200 million NHS trust. Charles has been a non-executive director within the NHS since November 2009.

In 2006 Charles had to retire due to the progression of multiple sclerosis. As a consequence of his disability, and previous work experience he became interested in all aspects of disabled access, equality training and associated areas. Charles has worked in public and private sector settings undertaking a range of access consultancy including access audits and design appraisals. This has included many buildings: listed historical properties, GP surgeries and complex hospitals with a value of £500 million. Charles is currently involved in a large training project at two London teaching hospitals which involves running workshops to enhance disability awareness of staff and improving access to services and facilities.
